A Jeopardy game in PowerPoint – a great fun element to add to any presentation to make it interesting and interactive. You might be a teacher trying to make your lesson more interesting or an organizer of a fantastic quiz night among friends, a Jeopardy game is a great choice for you. And the best thing is that preparations for this game don’t require any expertise in PowerPoint!

In this blog, let’s check how to create your own Jeopardy game using PowerPoint in stark, simple steps. Let’s get started!

What You’ll Need

  • PowerPoint (Any recent version)
  • A few minutes to follow the steps
  • Creativity for designing your questions and categories

Step 1: Title Slide

Now, open PowerPoint to start with a title slide for your Jeopardy game. This is where you place the name of your game, maybe something like “Math Jeopardy” or “Trivia Night”- and decorate it with fun fonts and images as you like, so it’s entertaining and exciting. Keep it simple but engaging, since this is the first thing your players will see.

Step 2: Setup the Jeopardy Grid

The Jeopardy board is the heart of the game. Here is how you can create it:

  1. Add a new slide: This is a great way to start fresh for your presentation.
  2. Create a table: In the Insert menu click on Table.
  3. A standard version of Jeopardy contains five categories, so the table you will create will have 6 columns. One column for the category names and 5 rows for your questions.

  1. In the top row, put in your category names (for example, “History,” “Science,” “Movies”).
  2. Enter point values for the remaining rows (100, 200, 300, 400, 500). These point values will be attached to the question slides.

Step 3: Add Question Slides

This is where the magic happens: inserting in your questions!

  1. Give one slide to the question: Whenever you have a question, go ahead and create a new slide for each question. It’s a great idea to put the question and the answer on separate slides or add a simple “Answer” button to show the answer after showing the question.
  2. Format your question slides: using Slide Layout to achieve uniformity. Use text boxes for the questions and ensure that the text is large enough to be readable from across the room.

Step 4: Hyperlink the Jeopardy Grid

To ensure the game is very interactive, you will hyperlink each point value on your grid with its corresponding question slide. Do the following:

  1. Click on a point value, such as 100 under “Maths.”
  2. Right-click and click the Hyperlink.
  3. In the menu, select Place in This Document, and hyperlink to the slide whose question it corresponds to.
  4. Repeat for each point value in your grid, hyperlinked to the appropriate question slides.

This makes the grid clickable, so that if someone clicks on a category and point value then jump right to the question.

Inserting Hyperlink. Place in This Document option. a question slide, and OK buttons are highlighted

Step 5: Add a “Home” Button

After you have created all your questions, then you will want to have a way to return to the Jeopardy board after each question. This is where a Home button fits the bill:

  1. Add a shape to every question slide-for example, an arrow or a Home button icon.
  2. Right-click the shape, click Hyperlink, and hyperlink back to your Jeopardy grid slide.

Thus, you will easily find your way back to the main board after every question for a smooth experience.
