Why Do You Use Background Music with Google Slides?

Adding background music to a presentation really brings it to life. Whether you’re using it for a school project, business pitch, or just a simple personal slideshow, just the right amount of music really does add to the whole experience for your audience. In this way, the slides, being necessarily more memorable things of emotions and do not keeping people engaged.

How to Add Background Sound in Google Slides

Step 1: Get ready with your Audio File

Before we do the trick, let’s make sure you have your audio ready, which you might want to add to your presentation. We are going to use an audio file here because Google Slides really works beautifully with Google Drive.

You can use your MP3 or WAV music files. In case you do not have a file there is nothing to worry about since you might search for royalty-free music, or use the other free websites that would provide you with the soundtracks for each of the presentations.

Step 2: Upload the Music to Google Drive

  • Now open your Google Drive.
  • Then click on the “+ New” button that’s located in the top-left corner.
  • Choose “File Upload” and upload your music file.
  • Wait for a file to upload.

Step 3: Add the Music to Your Slide

Now is the time to add that background music to your Google Slides.

  • Open up your presentation in Google Slides.
  • Click on the slide that you want the music to start on.
  • Go up to the menu bar and click on Insert.
  • Scroll down to Audio in the drop-down menu.
  • From the dialog box, you should be able to find all the audio files you imported from Google Drive. You now have to choose the music file you have just uploaded.

Step 4: Auto Play the Audio

You can now have background music with your presentation. Click the audio icon and you will be able to see the following:

  • Click the right-hand side of the window, under Format options. Under Audio Playback, change the setting from On Click to Automatically.
  • Well, henceforth your music will start automatically when you reach that slide of your presentation.

Step 5: Background Music Over Several Slides

If the background music is to continue playing all over your presentation, you have this little trick.

  • Insert the audio on the first slide.
  • Right-click on the audio icon and select “Duplicate”
  • Then just drop the duplicated audio on every slide where you’d like the music to play.

For this case, Google Slides does not have an option that would play the music continuously across slides, but for most intents and purposes this trick works pretty well.

Step 6: Fine Tune the Volume and More Settings

If you want to play the music with control in an exact manner:

  • Open Format Options.
  • You can adjust the volume level under Audio Playback.
  • You can also choose to loop the music, meaning it will restart once it finishes playing.
